Their presence and engagement in the AOS Board Meeting and 9th AOS Business Meeting on Thursday, July 3rd, 2025, in Seoul, underscore PCS's dedication to fostering international collaborations and bringing the latest insights back to the Filipino people. They actively engaged with international colleagues and contributed to vital discussions on global cancer control strategies and served as chair/co-chairs of sessions from screening to pre-clinical and translational oncology.
Adding to her significant contributions, Dr. Gloria R. Cristal-Luna also served as the Chairperson for Symposium 05: Cancer burden attributable to risk factors. This session took place on July 3rd (Thursday). Showcasing Philippine Research: Dr. Herdee Gloriane Luna's Abstract Presentations
A significant highlight of PCS's involvement was the presentation of compelling research abstracts by Dr. Herdee Gloriane Luna, Dr Gloria Cristal-Luna, and Dr. Corazon Ngelangel. They showcased two significant studies, demonstrating the depth and quality of oncology research being conducted in the Philippines:
- "Trends in Cancer Screening Initiatives in Quezon City, Philippines: 2022-2024" (Poster P-035). This valuable research highlights the ongoing efforts and progress in cancer screening programs within Quezon City, a crucial step towards early detection and improved patient outcomes. The study's findings provide vital insights for strengthening public health initiatives and addressing the burden of cancer in the community.
- "Next-generation sequencing-driven precision oncology: Advancing clinical outcomes amidst financial barriers in the Philippines" (Poster P-196). This groundbreaking abstract sheds light on the challenges and opportunities in implementing precision oncology in the Philippines, particularly concerning financial accessibility. Dr. Luna's work is instrumental in advocating for innovative solutions to ensure that advanced cancer treatments are available to more Filipinos.
The active participation of Dr. Ngelangel and Dr. Cristal-Luna, as well as the impactful presentations by Dr. Herdee Gloriane Luna, at this esteemed international congress, underscore the Philippine Cancer Society's pivotal role in the global fight against cancer. We remain committed to our mission of reducing the cancer burden in the Philippines through research, education, patient support, and advocacy, inspired by the valuable knowledge and connections gained from events like the AOS-KCA Congress.
