GMA Foundation and PCS Breast & Pap Smear Screening Test

The Philippine Cancer Society conducted breast examinations and pap smear screening activities for indigent patients of the GMA Kapuso Foundation last January 29 in observance of National Cancer Consciousness Week. The medical team, led by volunteer doctors Dr. Leila Naidas and Dr. Alma Madayag of the Fabella Medical Center, along with Mr. Alex Asuncion, Gloria Tiongson, Dory Arelito and Boyet Caasi of the PCS staff, screened more than 140 poor community residents with one found positive for breast cancer. The patient is now being helped by GMA Kapuso Foundation for her treatment.
DOH Healthy Lifestyle Launch

February 16, 2009 was a red letter day for the Department of Health and millions of Healthy Lifestyle advocates as the DOH officially launched its "HL to the Max" campaign at the DOH Convention Center with no less than Sec. Francisco T. Duque III in attendance. PCS executive director Dr. Kelly Salvador made a brief presentation on how Healthy Lifestyle can help prevent cancer. The affair was also attended by representatives from the Philippine Coalition for the Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases (PCPCNCD) and of the various city health units of DOH-NCR.
DLSU Cavite Lecture

Bringing the "anti-cancer" gospel to the outskirts of Metro Manila, the PCS Education and Information team held a series of Lectures and Cancer Screenings in six barangay communities around Cavite, from February 14 to March 7, to heighten awareness on cancer prevention and control. Led by EI head Alex Asuncion, the event was organized by Nursing masteral students of the De La Salle Health Sciences Institute based in Dasmariñas, Cavite headed by Prof. Ma. Bernadette Daplas. The towns visited include Dasmariñas, Silang, Alfonso, Gen. Mariano Alvarez, Tagaytay City and Bacoor whose Mayor Strike Revilla intends to put up a Cancer Prevention and Detection Unit at the proposed Bacoor General Hospital on a lot donated by his father, former Sen. Ramon Revilla, Sr.
