PCSI names winners for anti-cancer poster contest
Focusing on the theme, Effective prevention and early detection are the best means to fight cancer, a 23-year old public college student won the 2010 Poster Making Contest of the Philippine Cancer Society, Inc. (PCSI) with his oil rendition titled “Pundasyon ng Kalusugan.” This was announced by PCSI chairman Dr. Roberto M. Paterno during the Society’s regular board of trustees meeting held recently at the Manila Golf Club, Makati City.
Deoner Catamora of the Eulogio Amang Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology (EARIST) took the top prize among 31 contestants with a masterful piece showing a young boy already mindful of how to combat the deadly disease.
Mark Lester Espina, also of the same school, took 2nd honors with his work, “Your Life is in Your Hands, Choose Wellness to Prevent Cancer” while 11-year old Jamia Mei Tolentino of St. Stephen’s High School placed 3rd for her “Healthy Living to Prevent Cancer, Go to a Doctor, That’s the Answer” artpiece.
The judges evaluated the entries according to three main criteria: clarity of the theme, creativity and originality and quality of composition and design, Dr. Paterno said. All entries will be used by the Society for its advocacy programs in education and information on cancer prevention and early detection, he added.
Winning entries will receive their prizes during the PCSI’s Annual General Assembly to be held on May 24, 2010 at the PhilamLife auditorium, U.N. Ave., Manila, at 5:00 p.m.
