Mackay introduces breast cancer detection kit

MANILA, Philippines -- Mackay Holdings Inc., which has green energy, health and real estate ventures is introducing its portable breast-cancer detection technology in the Philippines.

Company chair and founder James Mackay said the Biofield Diagnostic System was “painless and non-invasive.” The cancer detection process would take only 15 minutes and could be done anywhere, he added.

Mastectomy Not First Choice for Most Breast Cancer Patients

TUESDAY, Oct. 13 (HealthDay News) -- Contrary to common belief, most women diagnosed with breast cancer are not turning to mastectomy as their first choice for treatment but are first trying more conservative approaches, such as lumpectomy, a new survey has found.

Study may change breast cancer screening

HOUSTON, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- A U.S. study shows women with a specific gene mutation are diagnosed with breast cancer six years earlier than women of the previous generation.

University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center researchers say their findings could have an impact on how women at the

highest risk for the disease are counseled and even screened in the future.

Study Suggests Mastectomy Not Being Overused For Breast Cancer Treatment

With there being a concern that mastectomy is excessively used as a treatment for breast cancer, a survey of nearly 2,000 women indicates that breast-conserving surgery was attempted as the initial therapy for about 75 percent of those surveyed, according to a study in the October 14 issue of JAMA, a theme issue on surgical care.
